Federal PLUS Online Loan Application Instructions

Follow the directions below to complete your loan application and Master Promissory Note (MPN) online. These directions are also included in the Parent PLUS loan wrapper you received.

1. Carefully read this page, scroll down, and click on "Fill out Online PLUS Application." This will take you to the secured Sallie Mae Website.
2. You will need to create a user name and password to access this site. Please remember this user name and password as it will be needed if you have to exit and return to the site at a later time.
3. After you create a user name and password scroll down and click on "Start the Application Process."
4. Under "Complete New Loan Applications" click on the "Parent PLUS loan" application tab. [NOTE: If you are a student and your parent has already submitted an Online PLUS application and signed with the e-signature feature, you may access your parent’s application to fill out your portion from the partially completed loan application section.]
5. Fill out the application/authorization for a credit check form. Be sure to fill in all blanks. It is necessary for a credit check to be done in order for a PLUS loan to be processed. By applying for this loan, you are authorizing Sallie Mae Servicing to run a credit check. If you do not wish to have this credit check done, please DO NOT PROCEED!
6. You will be approved or denied within a few minutes.
1. If you are denied, please forward denial notification to the Financial Aid Office.
2. If you are approved, you will need to complete the application process.
7. You have the option to electronically sign your application. If you choose not to do so, please print a copy of the MPN and mail it to the address on the application.
8. SPECIAL NOTE: Your loan will not be processed until the MPN has been received by Sallie Mae Servicing.
9. If you have any questions regarding the online process, or if you would prefer to file your application by paper, please contact the Financial Aid office at (318) 473-6539.
