New and Re-admitted Students
New and re-admitted students must be admitted to the university as a degree-seeking student to receive any financial aid. Check with the specific program office to assure that you have been officially accepted into your specific educational program. In order to be disbursed financial aid, students must be fully accepted into their program of study.

Applying for Financial Aid
You may submit the Free Application for Federal Student aid (FAFSA) three ways:
- On-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov Complete the FAFSA information by using the Federal Tax Returns for 2008 and submit it to the government on-line. After submitting the application electronically, you may either print the signature page to sign, date, and mail to the processors to complete this process or you may request for a Personnel Identification Number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov to use as your electronic signature. Students and parents of dependent students may request a PIN from this site for this purpose. Be sure to print a copy of the FAFSA information you submit for your records. Please keep your PIN in a safe place for future use.
- Renewal FAFSA students who submitted a FAFSA during the 2008-2009 school year may submit the Renewal FAFSA for the 2009-2010 school year. Student must have a PIN and the Renewal must be filed online.
- Paper FAFSA must be completed, signed, and dated; then mailed to the federal processors in the envelope provided. Please include LSU Alexandria’s school code 002011.
Financial Aid Application Priority Deadlines are:
Fall Semester: May 1st
Spring Semester: October 1st
Summer Semester: April 1st
To ensure that your financial aid is processed and awarded by the semester you are attending, please submit all necessary paperwork in to Financial Aid and Scholarships by the Priority Deadline. This means that the FAFSA must be filed with signature(s) at least 4 weeks before the deadline. After 5 weeks, if you haven’t received any forms from LSU Alexandria, please contact us to check the status. A student must be fully admitted in an academic program before any forms will be mailed.
Guidelines
- New borrowers, by law, must wait 30 days after the loan period begins (first day of classes) before they can receive their first disbursement.
- New borrowers are also required by law to attend an Entrance Interview prior to receiving loan funds. Until you complete a personal interview, you will not be allowed to receive your loan funds.
- According to federal regulations, the earliest that student loan checks can be disbursed is 10 days before the first day of class and must be in two loan disbursements: one at the beginning of the loan period and one halfway through the loan period.
- Students who have attempted more than 30 hours of remedial courses may not receive financial aid for additional remedial courses
- To maintain eligibility for your loan and to ensure that your financial aid is processed and awarded at the beginning of each semester, you must:
- meet all necessary deadlines.
- maintain satisfactory academic progress.[pdf]
- not currently be in default.
- not have attempted more than 30 hours of remedial courses.
- be enrolled in at least six credit hours during a regular semester and 3 credit hours during the summer semester.
- not owe a refund on any loan or grant in excess of Title IV.
- be registered with Selective Service, if required.
- use Title IV money received for expenses related to your study at LSU Alexandria
- officially admitted into a degree program.
