Financial Aid and Scholarships
After Applying
- After your completed FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA is received by the processing system, they will generate a Student Aid Report (SAR), which will be sent or emailed to you. Review the SAR for accuracy, paying particular attention to income figures. If corrections are required, correct the items either electronically or on Part 2 of the paper SAR.
- After the application has been received electronically by LSU Alexandria, you may be asked to provide additional information. Once you have been admitted to LSU Alexandria and your FAFSA information from the Central Processor has been received, our office will mail out the necessary forms and requirements. Some students are selected for verification by the Department of Education based on a random selection or by LSU Alexandria to resolve any conflicting information [view verification process]. Other supportive documentations may also be requested based on the situation. All documentation requested should be submitted immediately to avoid any delays.
- Request for Lender/Loans - Students may request a loan on the FAFSA. Financial Aid and Scholarships will determine students’ eligibility for loans and generate an award letter with the estimated amounts. Students will be required to accept these awards, sign and return the award letter to Financial Aid and Scholarships. Awards will not be accepted & processed until this letter is received in Financial Aid and Scholarships . Students who are first time borrowers at LSU Alexandria must complete an Entrance Interview and Master promissory Note (MPN). Additional information regarding the loan process will be sent to the student at the time of awarding.
- Follow Up - Do not wait to hear from Financial Aid and Scholarships to respond. Check your award status at least one to two months after applying for aid. Students should call (318) 473-6423 at least three weeks prior to classes beginning if they have not been sent an Award letter. Check all deadlines.
- Award Notification - An Award Notice will be sent to students from Financial Aid and Scholarships via the postal mail address given to the University once you have been awarded. The Award letter will state the amount of the estimated award, as well as the terms and conditions of the award. If you wish to change or reduce the award, make the change on the Award Notice and return it to Financial Aid and Scholarships immediately.
- Terms and Conditions of the Award Notice - If you are aware of any additional funds you will receive during the award year, such as a scholarship or an employee fee waiver, you must inform Financial Aid and Scholarships prior to it being awarded. Financial aid awards are subject to change in the event that additional assistance received, either from an outside source or from within the University, exceeds your financial need.
- First-time loan borrowers and first-time students with LSU Alexandria must complete an Entrance Counseling Interview prior to receiving any loan funds.
- Register for Classes - You must be registered for classes prior to disbursement of any financial aid funds. However, you may apply for financial aid prior to registration. Financial aid is based on the number of credits for which you register. You must enroll for the minimum number of credits based on the specific financial aid program eligibility requirements.
- Beginning Fall 2007, LSUA students that receive LSUA-related financial aid refunds will receive these funds via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). To enjoy this service, you must open an account with the Campus Federal Credit Union to receive your ATM/Debit card. (See Auxiliary Services office for more information.)
Refunds will be disbursed in a timely manner to the OaKard account; however, if you do not have an OaKard Campus Federal account, a check for your refunds will be mailed to you. NO CHECKS will be disbursed from the Accounting window.
